The Southcliff Hotel
Was: A seaside commercial hotel situated on The Leas.
The Southcliff Hotel is a commercially owned property located on The Leas in Folkestone. It was previously contracted by the UK Home Office to serve as temporary hotel accommodation for asylum seekers.
Status: The Southcliff Hotel is no longer operating as a migrant facility. In October 2023, the government announced it was terminating its contract with the hotel as part of a wider strategy to end the use of 50 commercial hotels across the UK for asylum accommodation. Its use as an asylum facility officially ceased by the end of November 2023.
Funding & Operations: While active as an asylum hotel, the government heavily outsourced operations to private contractors, such as Clearsprings Ready Homes, which manages large segments of the Home Office’s asylum accommodation estate in the south of England.
