Distressing video footage captures a critical street encounter on November 3, 2020, where a local London woman named Ashanti, alerted by her younger sister, intervened to protect a young girl in a school uniform. The bystander observed a man in a grey tracksuit—later identified by authorities as 26-year-old Kadian Nelson—closely following the child down a narrow residential alleyway in the Mitcham area of South London, and immediately challenged him, repeatedly asking, "What are you doing with her?"

The suspect attempted to deter the intervention by explicitly and falsely claiming, "This is man's sister, bro" and "This is man's family." Refusing to back down, Ashanti continued to follow the pair onto the main street, repeatedly calling out to the girl to check on her safety. The suspect eventually turned to confront the woman filming, aggressively demanding to know why she was "stalking" him. This momentary distraction provided the young girl the opportunity to run to the safety of the bystander. The visibly terrified and crying child embraced the woman and confirmed she had no relation to the suspect, stating, "I don't know him... I'm just trying to go to school." Following the viral spread of the video, vigilant community members located Nelson at an address in neighboring Tooting, leading to his arrest by the Metropolitan Police.
